The Two Fatalities Named in the Ivy League School Attack as Law Enforcement Persist in Manhunt for Killer.

Two students who died in the recent mass shooting at Brown University were honored at the start of the week – while an intensive search for their killer carried on following the release by local law enforcement of the single suspect questioned in the case.

Remembering Ella Cook

The student Ella Cook, a second-year scholar from Alabama, was remembered as “an amazing, stable, pious, radiant soul”, per the Birmingham's Cathedral Church of the Advent, which honored her memory at a ceremony on Sunday.

Her role included the vice-presidency of Brown’s chapter of College Republicans of America, as the club stated. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also expressed words of sorrow online, saying in part: “Words cannot express. Thinking of her family and friends, especially her parents.”

The Second Victim

The other person killed was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov from Uzbekistan, from Uzbekistan in his initial year at the prestigious university, his family confirmed.

The victim's identification was confirmed by the foreign office of Uzbekistan.

“He possessed remarkable kindness, humor, and intelligence. His ambitions were lofty of pursuing a career in neurosurgery and aiding others,” his sibling Samira said in a tribute.

What Happened

Nine more persons were hurt in the violent event in the engineering department of Brown’s university in Providence, during the institution's end-of-term tests.

Law enforcement reported on Sunday evening that a 24-year-man taken into custody in a police operation at a Hampton Inn about around 27 kilometers from the university earlier in the day was being released.

“We have a murderer out there,” declared the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.

He continued, “Investigations can lead one way, and then you have to regroup and pursue a different angle, and that is the current situation over the last day or so.”

Ongoing Concerns

The gunman opened fire inside a room in the engineering building on Saturday afternoon, firing more than 40 rounds from a 9mm pistol, a police source told the media outlet.

The Wounded Victims

Durham Academy, a independent school in the city of Durham, said a recent graduate, Kendall Turner, was among those critically wounded.

Cook was honored at a church service in Birmingham on Sunday. A pastor commented, “Her presence was a wonderful, steady, pious glow not only here growing up... but at Brown she was a radiant presence in that particular place as well.”

The president of College Republicans, Martin Bertao, released remarks from the group. “Ella was recognized for her courageous, valiant, and compassionate nature as she aided her club and fellow classmates,” he said.

Jonathan Henick, Jonathan Henick, said he was “profoundly grieved” by the passing of Umurzokov in a statement. “We offer our heartfelt sympathies to the Umurzokov family, friends, and peers and mourn the loss of his promising future.”

The weekend's murders at Brown, the seventh oldest in the US university with about over seven thousand undergraduate and three thousand graduate students, occurred during one of at least nearly 400 mass shootings recorded nationally so far in this year, according to records.
