It has been 30 years after the original Toy Story film was released, establishing the animation giant as a major animation studio and introducing viewers to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a glimpse into the storyline but leaving fans wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys

In the teaser reveals the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a brand new plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is what Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with him. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?

Connections from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the badge attached to her outfit.

It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the toys.
