The Duke of York relinquishes his title as the Duke.

Royal figure under scrutiny
The royal has been under increasing attention over his links with Jeffrey Epstein.

The royal is relinquishing his titles, such as the York's Duke, he has announced in a own words.

He has been under increasing scrutiny over his links with convicted criminal Jeffrey Epstein, with calls for the monarchy to take measures against him.

That now looks to have caused the prince deciding to of his own accord give up his titles and to give up participation of the Garter Order.

In his announcement he said he continued to "strongly dispute the accusations against me".

"In talks with the King, and my close and broader family, we have agreed the ongoing accusations about me divert from the duties of His Majesty and the monarchy," said a announcement from Prince Andrew.

"I have chosen, as I always have, to put my obligation to my kin and land first.

"I support my resolution five years ago to withdraw from royal engagements.

"With His Majesty's approval, we believe I must now go a step further. I will therefore no longer hold my honor or the awards which have been bestowed on me. As I have said before, I strongly dispute the accusations against me."

Prince Andrew has faced a range of issues, among them a legal case he ended with an accuser, inquiries about his money matters and his connection with an alleged foreign agent.

He will continue to be a prince - but will stop to be the the Duke, a honor granted from his the late Queen, the Queen Elizabeth II.

Andrew had already ended to be a "participating figure" and had lost the use of his His Royal Highness designation and no longer was seen at state occasions. His role now will be even more lessened.

His previous partner will be known as Sarah and no longer York's Duchess, but their daughters will persist to have the designation of princesses.

He has encountered strong examination over his associations with notorious figure Jeffrey Epstein, more recently featuring questions about when he had truly severed contact.

In his television appearance, Prince Andrew had said that he had severed all links with Jeffrey Epstein after they had been photographed together in New York in December 2010.

But emails sent in the following year later surfaced suggesting that the prince had confidentially stayed in contact with Epstein, for example sending a message: "Remain connected and we'll meet again soon!"

There had been growing frustration in Buckingham Palace at the issues that persisted to surround the prince.

Soon a book released after death by Virginia Giuffre will be released which is expected to draw additional attention on his involvement with the plaintiff and Epstein.
