The Blue Jays Claim World Series Matchup Versus the Dodgers
The outfielder previously helped the Houston Astros winning the championship in 2017.
The Toronto Blue Jays earned a spot in their maiden World Series following the 1993 season by beating the Seattle Mariners in the final seventh game of the AL Championship Series.
Behind by two runs, Springer delivered a three-run home run in the seventh inning, leading the Toronto squad in the majors to a four games to three triumph in the best-of-seven series. Next up are the Dodgers, who are the current crown, in the forthcoming Fall Classic.
"It's incredible for everyone here, the city, the nation," said Springer, a key player of the Astros team that claimed the 2017 World Series. "This is such an unbelievable moment."
The veteran has now slugged 23 October home runs, placing him third on the list after Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (27).
"I can't think of anyone else on planet Earth that I'd prefer in that moment besides Springer with his post-season brilliance," remarked Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
Seattle's team, who had led the series 2-0 and 3-2, continue to be the only MLB franchise yet to make an appearance in a World Series.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson stated "there's no question that it's going to sting" in the wake of his side's defeat at their home ballpark, but praised their work in the campaign.
"This is a unique group. Unfortunately that we had to come out on the unsuccessful side of this game," he continued.
The Blue Jays claimed the title on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and 1993, and will welcome the Los Angeles in the opener on this Friday.
